This wine is a blend of Syrah (64%) and Petite Sirah (36%), with the Syrah origi- nating from Elim and the Petite Sirah from Franschhoek.
Although the growing season saw less rain than average, the winter was cold and conditions in the vineyards were conducive to even bunch development. Mild summer temperatures without heat waves ensured exceptional flavour development.
The Syrah vineyards in Elim are trellised and grow in shale soils with a layer of "koffieklip" (coffee stone). This soil structure, combined with the cool cli- mate, result in wines with an intense perfume on the nose and minerality on the palate. The Franschhoek Petite Sirah vineyards grow in deep, sandy soils of weathered granite and sandstone, producing elegant wines with a creamy texture. The diversity of terroir in this blend ensures depth and complexity.
Grape varieties used in this blend were sorted and fermented separately. The wines were also matured separately in new 600 litre French oak barrels. After 30 months' maturation, the wines were blended. Bottling happened in March 2025. Only 3586 bottles were produced.
This wine combines the best wines of the vintage. Spicy and perfumy Syrah from Cape Agulhas beautifully combines with a fruity and creamy Petite Sirah from Franschhoek that also contributes intensity and colour to the blend. The wine is aged in 600-litre French oak barrels from trusted coopers. The extended oak maturation ensures character, stability and depth. The 2022 Hanneli R charms with abundant aro- mas, a luscious, but elegant palate and a finish with a charismatic and lingering presence.
