Environmental management is a high priority at La Motte and is factored into the long-term strategy as well as daily running of the estate. Examples of environmental care include the protection of precious natural flora known as ‘fynbos’ on the adjoining Wemmershoek mountains and adherence to biologic principles in the production of grapes, flowers and ethereal oils.

Champion
La Motte is a WWF Conservation Champion – acknowledged as an environmental leader in the industry for our commitment to conservation, responsible production practices, integrated environmental management systems, and spearheading innovations in water, energy efficiency and climate adaptation.
La Motte was one of the first wine estates to be awarded ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification – Certified February 2003, for its commitment to the principles of environmental care in wine-making.
In April 2010, La Motte received full HACCP certification for complying with strict international food safety procedures.
Both La Motte farm and La Motte cellar obtained IPW membership in 2005 for complying with production practices on farms and/or cellars, as evaluated and audited by the IPW scheme.
Since March 2006, La Motte has been an accredited WIETA member, sharing this Association’s mission to improve the working conditions of employees in agriculture.
In 2008 La Motte received the Woolworths Eco-Efficiency Award in recognition of its commitment towards achieving greater environmental sustainability.
La Motte was one of the first Woolworths-supplier wine farms to be audited and certified in respect of an initiative addressing sustainable practices on Woolworths-supplier farms and at wineries.
La Motte has been certified with EnviroWines recognising growers showing optimum implementation of above-average environmentally sustainable practices to protect our environment. Such growers differentiate themselves from the norm by obtaining an outstanding evaluation score of 75% or more during their farm and winery audits by the South African Scheme of Integrated Production of Wine (IPW).
La Motte has been certified for Vegan Production since 2021. The Vegan Standard applies to all production, processing and handling of La Motte wines and verifies the absence of animal derivatives and exploitation and cruelty of animals.
