Environmental management is a high priority at La Motte and is factored into the long-term strategy as well as daily running of the estate. Examples of environmental care include the protection of precious natural flora known as ‘fynbos’ on the adjoining Wemmershoek mountains and adherence to biologic principles in the production of grapes, flowers and ethereal oils.

The estate is a WWF Conservation Champion, complies with the international wine industry environmental sustainability criteria as per the Integrated Production of Wine Scheme (IPW) and is committed to biologic farming principles.

Champion
La Motte was awarded WWF Conservation Champion status in April 2007 for being one of a selected few wine farms to meet the WWF's strict criteria for conservation operations. In January 2008 La Motte was registered a voluntary Cape Nature Conservation site.
La Motte was one of the first wine estates to be awarded ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification - certified February 2003 - for its commitment to the principles of environmental care in wine-making.
In April 2010, La Motte received full HACCP certification for complying with strict international food safety procedures.
Both La Motte farm and La Motte cellar obtained IPW membership in 2005 for complying with production practices on farms and/or cellars, as evaluated and audited by the IPW scheme.
Since March 2006, La Motte has been an accredited WIETA member, sharing this Association’s mission to improve the working conditions of employees in agriculture.
La Motte's commitment to the highest quality standards also respects in all aspects of food safety, keeping up with customer preference as well as environmental and social sustainability. On trend with the latest consumer movement for vegan-friendly wine, La Motte is delighted that all wines in its portfolio have received internationally recognised vegan accreditation.
La Motte was one of the first Woolworths-supplier wine farms to be audited and certified in respect of an initiative addressing sustainable practices on Woolworths-supplier farms and at wineries.
La Motte has been certified with EnviroWines recognising growers who produce grapes and wine through above average environmentally sustainable practices, showing optimum implementation of these practices in order to protect our environment.
