La Motte - Pierneef à La Motte – one of South Africa’s Top Ten Restaurants

Pierneef à La Motte has last night been acknowledged by the 2013 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards as one of South Africa’s top ten restaurants.

While Chef Chris Erasmus and his team were also responsible for the main course served at the gala evening held at The Lookout, V&A Waterfront, the event was attended by La Motte’s owner, Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg and her husband and CEO of the estate, Hein Koegelenberg.

“We are delighted to have been acknowledged as one of South Africa’s ten best restaurants. We are very passionate about the concept of Cape Winelands Cuisine and see this award as motivation to continue our focus on regional cuisine and ingredients sourced locally and sustainably”, says Hein Koegelenberg.

Since opening its doors three years ago (September 2010), Pierneef à La Motte restaurant has been acknowledged for its cuisine, wine list and interior and is especially proud of the important part its offering played in La Motte being announced by Drinks Business International Wine Tourism awards as Best Food and Wine Matching experience for 2013. Being the third year in the list of Top Twenty restaurants nominated for the Top Ten, it has also been nominated twice for the Boschendal Style awards, is a platinum-award winner in the prestigious American Express® Platinum Fine Dining Restaurants for 2014 and its wine list has received a Diamond award from Diner’s Club International.

The restaurant with its offering of regional Cape Winelands cuisine has versatile dining options – from relaxed lunches to fine-dining menus, from alfresco meals under the oak trees to formal dinners. Delicate confectionery and breads baked in the farm kitchen are also available from the La Motte Farm Shop.

Menus are seasonal and ingredients sourced sustainably and as far as possible from local, artisan suppliers. Early mornings see the team of chefs in La Motte’s biological garden picking fresh and seasonal vegetables and herbs for the restaurant.

All meals come with a wine suggestion and wines are served by the glass to encourage patrons to try the ultimate food and wine combination. The wine list includes some lovely examples of South African as well as international wines. A wide selection of MCC sparkling wines from the Franschhoek valley are on offer and La Motte wines are available at cellar door prices.

Complementing the A La Carte Dinner Menu is a fine-dining Chef’s Menu. The restaurant offering also includes a personalised Chef’s Table and delightful Winelands Tea.
