Inspired by La Motte’s owner and internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, La Motte’s close association with classical music is celebrated by a series of classical music concerts presented in the beautiful Historic Cellar on the estate. An impressive line-up of both international and local artists will perform in the coming months.
20 January - Olga Scheps Piano Recital
Olga Scheps is widely considered as part of the new generation of elite musicians, impressing with the maturity of her performance and interpretation. In addition to a full schedule of recitals and concerti, this German-Russian pianist in 2010 signed an exclusive recording contract with Sony Music’s RCA Red Seal. She subsequently earned her first ECHO Klassik Award as Newcomer of the Year for her debut album of Chopin. Seven more award-winning albums followed, all having reached the top ten in the classical charts.
10 February - The Heart of the Flute with Gabriele von Dürckheim (Flute) and Luis Magalhães (Piano)
Gabriele von Dürckheim, principal flute of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra joins forces with Portuguese-born pianist Luis Magalhães for a programme of works by Schubert, Jolivet and Prokofiev. Join them on special journey to the heart and soul of flute and piano music – rarely performed in South Africa.
24 March: Lutesong Duo celebrates a Baroque Easter
The Lutesong duo consists of classically trained mezzo-soprano Lente Louw, and Uwe Grosser, lute builder and early music specialist with more than thirty years’ experience. The Cape Town-based husband and wife duo devotes their performances to English, Italian, German, Spanish and French lute song repertoire from the 16th and 17th centuries and adds a contemporary flair. They will present an Easter themed programme especially for La Motte.
14 April: James Grace Journey to Spain
KANNA Award winner for Best Male Artist at the 2010 ABSA KKNK, James Grace is one of one South Africa’s leading concert artists. In recent years, he has appeared with the Cape Philharmonic, the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic, the Johannesburg Festival, the Johannesburg Philharmonic and the Free State Symphony in concerti by Rodrigo, Villa – Lobos, Giuliani and Vivaldi. James has recently released his sixth solo album, Chilled, under his own record label, Stringwise Records. His previous two releases Sevilla – Music of Spain II and Café Latino both topped the Classic FM Top 20 South African Charts and earned James SAMA nominations for Best Popular Classical Album and Best Instrumental Album respectively. For his recital for La Motte, he returns to his roots of Seville and Granada for a programme of popular Spanish works.

Concerts start at 19:00, performances last for an hour and guests are invited to stay for a glass of La Motte wine. Those who would like to enjoy dinner afterwards at award-winning Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant, are urged to make a reservation beforehand.
