Keith Hamilton Dietrich was born in Johannesburg. Dietrich is a painter and graphic artist of mainly portraits and still-lifes. He works in oil, watercolour, pastel and various graphic media. He studied in the United States, completed a 2year post graduate study in painting at the Nationale Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunste in Antwerp, Belgium. Completed his M.A. Fine Art degree (cum laude) and D.Litt in History of Art through UNISA. He lectured at the University of Pretoria and specialized in illustration work. Also an Associate Professor at the University of Stellenbosch – Centre of the Comic and Illustrative Book Arts.
Today Dietrich is a highly respected contemporary artists in South Africa and the following collections holds his work:
