A charming sweet wine with an intense golden hue is an exceptional treat. Not only can it be a beautiful end to a special meal, it can also be a wonderful and versatile partner to food, especially when it comes to decadent flavours and textures, making it ideal for the festive season!
While a natural partner to most sweet desserts such as lemon meringue and apple crumble, the La Motte Straw Wine’s intricate flavours and beautiful balance make it more versatile. It is exceptional with stewed fruit and it also works a treat with the intense savouriness of cheese, especially Roquefort and Feta. It loves traditional festive spices such as ginger, sings with cardamom and does wonders with a rich pȃté.
To make this the ultimate festive wine, the latest release from La Motte also comes with an updated, elegant design to its delightful 375 ml packaging, combining modern white with celebratory touches of gold. Pretty and perfect as a festive gift! (R280 from the La Motte Tasting Room or online).
The delicate La Motte Straw Wine is made from Viognier grapes grown in the Franschhoek Valley, especially chosen for their distinctive aromatic properties. The unique, slow drying process of the straw wine production results in intriguing golden hues, layered flavours and concentrated sugars - even though the grapes are picked at the same ripeness as natural dry wines. To add even more complexity, the juice was fermented in barrels and grapes from both the 2017 and 2018 vintages were used.
While La Motte’s Viognier Straw Wine is sweet and aromatic, it has a beautiful balancing acidity that results in elegance and finesse. A perfume of abundant dried apricots, almond and distinctive jasmine flower follows through on a silky palate with a nutty aftertaste.
