With a history dating back to 1695 and our reputation for conserving heritage, we always enjoy celebrating Heritage Month in September.
From our cultural heritage - an exceptional culinary offering and acclaimed art experiences - to the conservation of our natural heritage and fynbos on the mountain slopes, at La Motte, we believe that heritage is not only about preserving, but also about continuously reimagining.
This year, our focus is on a sensory experience of heritage, especially as the natural beauty on the farm reawakens for Spring!
The Scent of Sproeireën
Inheems, La Motte's collection of moisturising and skin-smoothing body products, is inspired by the indigenous Franschhoek landscape. Each product embodies the scents and stories of the farm, extending an invitation to experience nature's simplicity and calm.
We are delighted to introduce a new fragrance to the collection: Sproeireën.
The name is inspired by DJ Opperman’s well-known poem while the scent is an essential oil interpretation of the much-loved scent of the Farm Shop on the estate.
Main elements include Sandalwood, Rose Wood and Cedarwood beautifully balanced with Grapefruit, Rose and Lavender. The fragrance offers a warm, woody ambience combined with a smooth, uplifting scent sensation, offering a deep sense of calm and relaxation.
The range consists out of a velvety body oil and body butter as well as a hand & body wash, hand & body lotion and room & linen mist.
Available from the La Motte Farm Shop.
JAN Franschhoek
Telling the story of our culinary heritage does not get better than this. JAN Franschhoek is an exceptional, seasonal food and wine experience combining the nostalgia of a South African family table with Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen’s Michelin-star culinary innovation.
We invite you to join us in the historic Veepos cottage, to take a seat at the communal table and be mesmerized by regional traditions, familiar flavours and local ingredients presented with the utmost care and flair!
Bread goes Botanical
Inspired by the wealth of indigenous flora and fynbos on the estate, the La Motte Bakery has a new botanical-inspired loaf baked with 50% rye and 50% organic whole wheat flour with a delicate touch of Buchu, a hint of pink pepper, some fynbos honey and the estate's EVOO.
The Bakery recommends a soft slice with a few ribbons of trout or a toasted slice with avocado when you visit us for breakfast or lunch, but we believe at home, this exceptional loaf only needs a generous smear of butter and perhaps a little drizzle of honey to complement its herby and spicy notes.
Available form the La Motte Bakery, Tuesday to Sunday.
Choose Your Cup
No celebration is completed without a glass of Cap Classique. 1 September is Cap Classique day, celebrating the history and quality of local sparkling wines made using the traditional method of Champagne.
Join us in the La Motte Tasting Room for a Choose Your Cup Cap Classique tasting showcasing the influence of your choice of stemware on the taste of the MCC in your glass. Do you prefer to sip from an elegant flute, love the charm of a coupe or like to keep up with trends and varietal-specific stemware? Taste the difference! R160 per person.
Celebrating at home? Don't do it without the La Motte Reserve MCC!

Sweet Memories
Milk Tart is a traditional South African sweet treat and while the recipe might have changed over time, we all have a favourite style: the traditional tart baked in puff pastry with a generous a cinnamon dusting, a carb-clever version without a crust or a kid- and fridge-friendly option.
Join us at L'Ami Family Brasserie during September and order a delicious slice of traditional Milk Tart. It comes with the most delightful Rooibos-inspired ice cream bringing our natural heritage to the table and we suggest enjoying it with a glass of our Reserve Cap Classique for a proper celebration!
The Art of Spring
Other than the bright green oak leaves making their appearance to announce Spring, what else is happening among the trees with the arrival of a new season?
Visit the La Motte Ateljee to browse the art exhibition and be intrigued about what can be found Among the Trees. Take the inspiration to another level with our series of workshops: from botanical themed textile painting to embroidery and watercolour work.
Visit the La Motte Ateljee from Wednesday to Sunday and follow the link to book for a workshop.
Spring Awakening
A lively programme of classical music performed by acclaimed cellist, Peter Martens and pianist, Megan Geoffrey Prince opens the La Motte's 2026/2027 Summer Series of Classical Music Concerts.
Entitled Spring Awakening, this programme includes short pieces by Popper, Piazzolla, Pärt, Casado and Saint-Saëns, sonatas by Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms and Rachmaninov and a Bach solo.
An Open Door
When guests visit La Motte, we want them to feel welcome and treasured, but not everyone can make it to our Franschhoek estate. We are therefore delighted to extend an invitation to experience authentic Cape Winelands hospitality to a wider community.
As the proud and very excited official wine sponsor of KAMERS Makers, we invite you to join us for a La Motte experience at the upcoming 2026 season. We are bringing a beautiful selection of wines to Gauteng and we can't wait to meet you!
