With a thoroughly cold and wet Winelands winter, we don’t need any excuse to enjoy a glass of red wine, but we actually have a few!
National Shiraz Day (21 August) always encourages us to open a bottle of Shiraz, but as it has been extended to Seven Days of Shiraz (21 – 28 August) and in our case a month-long 10% discount when you buy any 6 bottles of the 2020 La Motte Syrah or 2018 Pierneef Syrah Viognier, it is a proper celebration! Available from the La Motte Tasting Room or la-motte.com
You can also join us on the estate for a special vintage Shiraz tasting, find your favourite food partner on the La Motte Bakery menu or do try one of our Syrah-friendly recipes!
Seven Days of Shiraz
Explore the influence of terroir, time and technique with a vintage tasting of the 2017, 2019 and 2020 La Motte Syrah, presented by a Wine Tasting Ambassador in the La Motte Tasting Room from 21 to 28 August. (Please note that we are closed on the 26th). R80 per person. Book here.
Syrah promises to be a lovely partner to the Bakery’s popular broodjies with toppings such as Cape Bobotie, Wood-fired Karoo Lamb or Butter Chicken. And don’t miss the Beef Pie served with a complimentary glass of La Motte Syrah during the Seven Days of Shiraz! Book now.
Women & Wine
Women’s Day on 9 August gives us a great opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful women out there – not only for a day, but a whole long weekend!
Plan a special celebration and open a bottle of the 2020 La Motte Hanneli R.
A blend of the best 2020 had to offer, the wine consists of 60% spicy and perfumy Syrah from the Cape South Coast and 40% fruity and creamy Petit Sirah from Franschhoek that also adds an extra touch of intensity and colour to the blend. Matured in 600-litre French oak barrels to add character, stability and depth, the wine is opulent, but elegant and the perfect gift or glassful to celebrate Women’s Day. Buy now.
Refined meets Robust
Our 2018 Pierneef Syrah Viognier is a sophisticated red that beautifully balances the structure and spice of Syrah with the floral nuances of Viognier, allowing it to complement beef, venison and charcuterie, aromatic curries, game birds such as quail and duck, as well as reduced fruit flavours.
This recipe by Ilse van der Merwe for a slow-cooked Massaman curried pork shoulder that is mild, rich and fragrant makes for the ultimate pairing with the Pierneef Syrah Viognier - a winter feast!
Red Revelation
Although we are long past the days of only serving red wine with red meat and white wine with white meat, this vegetarian dish of Butter and almond roasted cauliflower with a puree of babaganoush, horseradish yoghurt and homemade sprouts has so much complexity, texture and flavour, it asks for a wine that matches its complexity.
Prepare yourself for a revelation of taste and pour generous glasses of our recently released 2020 La Motte Syrah when you serve this beautiful meal.
