Acclaimed as an aperitif-style wine and enjoyed for its refreshing character and accessibility, there is more to La Motte’s Sauvignon Blanc than upfront fruit flavours and a crisp acidity – from vineyard selection to viniculture.
Exceeding expectations vintage after vintage, the popularity of La Motte Sauvignon Blanc lies in its consistency, reliability and versatility.
Each year, the estate combines the best of various terroir to ensure it capitalises on the strengths of the vintage while maintaining the freshness and well-integrated flavour profile the wine is renowned for. The 2017 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc was made from grapes from Franschhoek (30%), Stellenbosch (50%), Elgin (5%), Walker Bay (10%) and Elim (5%).
Selecting the ultimate vineyards for the vintage depends on growing conditions and with a dry year and mild temperatures, circumstances were ideal for Sauvignon Blanc. The result is a wine with a good acidity as well as complexity, which was enhanced by leaving the wine on the lease for three months after fermentation and by adding 10% Semillon to the blend. Therefore, despite its low residual sugar, the 2017 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc has a medium full palate beautifully complementing a nose of crisp pineapple, green apple and lemon fruit.
Always invigorating, the 2017 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc delivers as a summer wine or sundowner, but with its exceptionally balanced and integrated flavours, it is also worthy of a place on the dinner table and makes for a beautiful choice with salads, seafood and even those notoriously challenging Asian flavours.
