Celebrate with French flair!

The Franschhoek Bastille Festival is an annual highlight celebrating the beautiful Franschhoek Valley’s joie de vivre and the love for food and wine we inherited from the French Huguenots who settled here many years ago.

In 2020, the festival goes virtual and while we will miss the buzz of festival goers in the streets and on the farms, we are excited about opening it up to a wider audience and we would like to invite you to join our celebration of all things French – on the estate, online or in the comfort of your own home!

A French wine-making heritage

La Motte’s proud wine-making heritage is reflected in its classic wine styles. Renowned for their elegance, La Motte wines include favourites such as the Bordeaux-style Millennium, the celebrated Rhône-type Pierneef Syrah Viognier and Champagne-inspired Méthode Cap Classique! Make sure to have them as part of your Bastille celebrations!

Buy La Motte wine online for delivery or collection or visit the estate for wine sales from Monday to  Thursday, 09:00 – 16:00. During Bastille, order 11 bottles of the same La Motte wine and get 1 free. National delivery is free for any purchase of 6 bottles or more.

Culinary traditions

France’s culinary traditions are world-renowned and deemed the basis of any chef’s education. Technique and taste combine in the finest flavours, tested over the years. Celebrating French cookery, Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant presents a French menu for the Bastille festival.

Sit down to enjoy Chef Eric Bulpitt's fabulous French menu over Bastille weekends (Friday, 3 July to Sunday, 5 July or Friday, 10 July to Sunday, 12 July). Or order online for delivery or collection from the estate and have your own French food celebration at home! Follow us on social media channels for French recipes and inspirations to try in your own kitchen.

(Please note no on-consumption of wine is allowed in the restaurant)

Patisserie perfection

Pâtisserie, boulangerie, viennoiserie... the French love their baking and even have a name for each different bake. Sharing this French passion, the La Motte Farm Shop has a beautiful selection of pretty confectionery – almost like they’re straight from a Parisian pâtisserie! Canelés, Paris-Brest, Macarons, Nougat…

Make sure to visit the La Motte Farm Shop between 1 and 11 July, Monday - Sunday, 09:00 - 16:00 or add these delicacies to your restaurant delivery for delicious tea-time treats and dainty desserts.

For the love of bread

Did you know that bread categories are protected by French law?! The ingredients used are regulated and French bakers have to rely on techniques of kneading, proofing and baking to create an assortment of breads. The Baguette’s crispy crust and chewy interior has made it popular bread globally while its classic “wand” shape after which it has been named, has become an unofficial symbol of the French lifestyle. Get yours from the La Motte Farm Shop, Monday to Sunday, 09:00 - 16:00.
