The Franschhoek Bastille Festival is an annual highlight celebrating the beautiful Franschhoek Valley’s joie de vivre and the love for food and wine we inherited from the French Huguenots who settled here many years ago.
Unfortunately, as with so many of the things we enjoy, Covid is preventing the normal festivities this year, but that does not prevent us from savouring all that is fabulous about our French heritage - especially when it comes to food and wine. Abiding by all Covid protocol, La Motte is adding a French touch to its current offering with French-inspired menus and shopping for those who need their annual French fix!

Did you know that bread categories are protected by French law?! The ingredients used are regulated and French bakers have to rely on techniques of kneading, proofing and baking to create an assortment of breads. The Baguette’s crispy crust and chewy interior has made it popular bread globally while its classic “wand” shape after which it has been named, has become an unofficial symbol of the French lifestyle. Get yours from the La Motte Farm Shop, Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 - 17:00.
