Two-Day Intermediate Plein Air Oil Painting Workshop with Alice Toich at La Motte Ateljee
Join Alice Toich for an in-depth two-day intermediate plein air painting workshop while being inspired by the La Motte landscape and historic buildings. Alice will facilitate all demonstrations and guide guests on the best materials and tools for painting en plein air.
Alice Angela Toich describes herself as an artist, baker and gardener as well as a writer, and has been painting in oils for over 15 years. Her painting practice is rooted in the classical oil painting traditions of the past - with a contemporary take on subject matter, and focuses on only working “from life”. She has traveled to Europe and America to learn more about the classic and traditional methods of painting of the old masters , and has become increasingly passionate about plein air painting in the beautiful South African landscape and looking to nature for inspiration.
Included in the cost is the facilitation by Alice and catering on both days at La Motte. Excluded from the workshop are all the oil painting materials. Please consult the material list below and ensure you bring all required materials with. The highest quality materials are recommended, however, please bring the oil paint that best fits your budget and that you are comfortable to work with.
Learning to work with and in changing natural conditions is integral to plein air painting, guests can expect to paint in wind, changing cloud conditions and heat. As this workshop is reliant on weather, conditions will be monitored closely. If the wind/rain forecast for the weekend is too severe to paint outdoors, the workshop could be moved indoors or postponed. Utmost care will be taken to ensure maximum learning and painting time is made possible.
