La Motte is celebrating its association with classical music with a programme of monthly classical music concerts presented in the beautiful Historic Cellar on the estate. The programme for the second semester of 2014 varies between a special performance by the estate’s owner and acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg to violin, piano and clarinet recitals by local and international artists.
6 September – La Motte presents a Spring Concert, consisting of songs around the theme of love and life, performed by renowned mezzo-soprano Hanneli Rupert and pianist Albie van Schalkwyk. The varied programme celebrating the emotions, colours and atmospheres of Spring includes works by Mendehlsohn, Schubert and Brahms. The programme will conclude with Afrikaans songs about spring.
25 October – International pianist Alessandro Taverna takes us on a journey to his birth city of Venice with a programme of works by Mendelssohn, Chopin, Ravel, Liszt and Debussy – with Venice the theme and inspiration. Since his performance at the 2009 Leeds International Piano Competition Alessandro has grown into one of the most interesting musical pianists of his generation in demand across Europe and America.
8 November – Brilliant young violinist, Avigail Bushakevitz will be accompanied on piano by her brother Ammiel in a special programme including Mozart’s Sonata for Piano and Violin in F major, K376 as well as Debussy Sonata for Violin and Piano in G minor. To celebrate the 150 years since the birth of Strauss, the programme will conclude with his Sonata in E flat minor, Op. 18.
5 & 6 December – Celebrate the joy of Christmas with owner of the estate and celebrated mezzo-soprano, Hanneli Rupert and some of her special friends in music.
13 December – Two of Cape Town’s favourite musicians – clarinettist Maria du Toit and pianist Francois du Toit join forces for one of the highlights on La Motte’s music calendar – the Christmas concert. Performing Christmas-inspired French compositions, the programme will include Chausson’s Andante et Allegro, Sonatas by Poulenc and Saint-Saens, Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsodie and a selection of French Christmas Carols.
