Harvest time is a very special season in the Winelands! It means early mornings in the vineyards and late nights in the cellar, but it comes with a contagious joy and it is the ideal time to enjoy the wonderful tastes and traditions of the harvest.
Join us at La Motte for a Harvest Experience and share in the excitement of harvest time on a historic wine estate. Enjoy a tour of the vineyards and cellar and try fermenting grape juice from the tanks. Walk through the beautiful summer gardens to taste the estate’s latest vintages in the Historic Cellar and don’t leave without trying our famous seasonal mosbolletjies!
What you can expect from the La Motte Harvest Experience:
One of the estate’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable wine tasting ambassadors will guide you on this celebration of unique harvest traditions:
- In the vineyard - enjoy an introduction to the various varietals, harvest processes and the estate’s biologic farming practices. Spot the differences between the various varieties and taste the sweetness of the ripe berries.
- In the cellar - experience the hand-sorting of grapes, crush, pump-overs and other cellar activities, concluded with a tasting of grape must (fermenting grape juice) from a fermentation tank.
- In the tasting room - sit down to a tasting of La Motte’s award-winning collection of wines - six wines from the La Motte Classic and Estate Collections - and taste the renowned La Motte mosbolletjies!
- In the summer gardens – as an optional addition to the experience, relax in the calm ambience of the estate’s beautiful summer gardens with a Taste of the Harvest platter (From 7 February at R150 for two) or join us in the La Motte Bakery & Garden Café for breakfast or lunch. (Please note: The Taste of the Harvest platter, breakfast or lunch are available from Wednesday to Sunday)
The Harvest Experience at R180 per person includes the vineyard and cellar tour as well as wine tasting. It takes about 90 minutes and takes place from Tuesdays to Fridays, at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 from 1 February to the end of March.
Taste of the Harvest platters (Available from 7 February at R150 for two) can be ordered from the Tasting Room. Those who would like to linger for breakfast or lunch, should please make their reservations directly with the Bakery & Garden Café.
